So how are your driving skills?

I suppose this post may be seen as a betrayal of my chromosome, but it's too good not to be mentioned here :

In a recent survey here (Sweden), male drivers were asked how they rated their own driving skills... and as could be expected, 87% of them rated themselves above average. :lmao: That may very well be the root cause of some interesting things I have seen on the roads lately. :notme:

I believe that this could also tie into the other discussion on how incompetent people believe that they are competent... :notme:

Well now, I live in NC, the home of NASCAR. Everybody here can drive like Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt (and Jr.) and all the other greats, all rolled up into one! If you don't believe me, just ask my redneck friends!:notme: Just this morning I saw a car pass another car and a school bus on the double yellow lines. Shooo! we can drive jus fine!

Yep, I think driving is a perfect example of incompetent people thinking they are competent. The worse you drive, the better you tell people you are. Here, if you don't die in a car accident, you are a good driver.

People who think NJ drivers are bad just don't understand us...
NJ Drivers know exaclty what they're doing and what their limits are when they cross three lanes of traffic, cut you off and flip you the bird like you did something wrong. :D

And then there is always Indianapolis in May. The observed speed seems to go up at least 10 mph over the already 10 mph over the posted limit speed that most folks drive normally. Fortunately I only have to work here, and live out in the middle of nowhere, where the fastest thing on the road is the neighbor's John Deere. Unfortunately, I work a mile from the track.

When I moved here, I was amazed to discover that I'd rather drive in Chicago or Detroit where at least they will occasionally signal for a turn!

I remember my first job out of the Navy was a car dealership in New Orleans. Just moved there (grew up in Cincinnati), didn't know the area, BIG wake up call.

My wife talks about MA drivers, but between NO and 4 years in Norfolk... I've seen alot. (That's not counting the overseas, like France with people passing on the sidewalk!:mg: )

When I lived in Colorado Springs, we could tell the state a car was from, not by the licence plate, but by the position of the car as it went through a red light!! The fourth car was always a Texan................

That's good! I've spent a fair amount of time in the CS area, there are a lot of people who drive through the red lights!

An old story came to me, about the Royal Navy officer who worked at the base in Malta for 15 years. Despite Malta being a place of terrible driving skills, the officer managed to never be involved in an accident. On redeployment back to London, within a few days, the officer's car was run into - by a Maltese on vacation.............:lmao:
