SOP on Handling of HCl (Hydrochloric Acid)

Hi Everyone,

I am a intern that has been assigned the task of writing an SOP for HCL, now I have written a few SOPs so this is nothing new to me. However, as I was taught in safety there are some things you just don't need to reinvent the wheel for. So I m hoping to get some help on obtaining an SOP for HCl if anyone out there may have one.

Thanks,

Re: HCl SOP

Hydrochloric Acid, I should have been more specific. I m sure an SOP for using any corrosive solution would work.

I would suspect that the MSDS would be a logical place to start.

Re: HCl SOP

My suggestion is to write SOPs for chemical groups rather than for each individual one chemical....that would be pretty challenging to do (writing for each individual chemical in a company) based on the ever changing inventory status making it almost impossible to maintain/review such a materials' chemicals list. IMHO

Here is one from Cornell University if that is what you want:
http: //www. chess. cornell. edu/safety/chemsop/hydrchlr.htm - OBSOLETE BROKEN 404 LINK(s) UNLINKED

Here is another one from Duke:
http :// xray .dhvi. duke. edu/files/documents/SOP%20corrosives%20-%20HCl.pdf - OBSOLETE BROKEN 404 LINK(s) UNLINKED

Make your life easy & group chemicals based on their chemical category & write SOPs by category.

Here is one from Harvard on Mineral Acids:
http ://www .uos. harvard. edu/ehs/longwood/sop-mineral_acids.pdf - OBSOLETE BROKEN 404 LINK(s) UNLINKED

Here is Stanford's General Use SOP for Highly Reactive/Unstable Materials
http: //chemtoolkit. stanford. edu/node/64 - OBSOLETE BROKEN 404 LINK(s) UNLINKED

...now, whatever it is decided...make sure that after SOPs are written, that staff is trained & understand these SOPs are important to follow.

Good luck!
