While arguing with my husband last night about whether to watch baseball or hockey (c'mon its the Stanley Cup finals you've GOTTA go with hockey) I wondered what sports the Covers enjoy watching/playing. I'll start

Enjoy watching: NFL (since the forum is international please note I did not write football which would mean soccer everywhere but here!), Nascar, baseball, hockey playoffs, and some college sports.

One sport I do NOT enjoy watching: Boxing - no explanation necessary

As for playing, I'm not much of an athlete but I play games with my kids that resemble soccer, baseball, tag, and since we make up our rules and have no names I can't really tell you exactly what we do because it changes daily. I enjoy trying to play golf but haven't quite gotten the hang of it. I chose golf because you can drink beer while you play!

:D Good idea!

In my younger days did

a lot of:
  • Weight lifting (Until my joints started acting up),
  • Flying (Gliders),
  • Dancing (Modern, Latin, Folk dance and would you believe it: Square Dancing),
  • Running/Jogging (I have a couple of marathons under my belt),
  • Cycling,
Some:
  • Cross country skiing,
  • Swimming
Today, walks in the woods keep me in reasonable shape. My joints are not up to much more than that.

What I watch given time:
  • Much of the above, and
  • F1 Racing.

My top sport is NFL, I am a also a hockey fan and seeing my hometown team (Tampa bay Lightening) play for the Stanley Cup (finally after been the league doormat 2 years) makes it's even more fun.

As we sya down here, "... the cup needs a Sun tan"

Let's see........

I am a Southerner.....therefore......

Football (no, not soccer OR rugby) in all varieties.....NFL, European NFL, Australian Rules, Arena, College, High School, Jr High, Pop Warner, Pee Wee, sandlot......and I enjoyed playing sand lot until I became old and broken....

Baseball, enjoy playing, and watching in person, again, all levels.....T-Ball is the funiest there is.....watching baseball on TV is boring though.

Swimming is one thing I enjoy, both doing and watching. I enjoy snorkellinh. I also like watching diving and gymnastics.

I have enjoyed trying bowling a few times, in part because one can drink beer in that game also......and intend to ty golf, buthaven't tried yet, except miniture golf.....but will make sure I choose a course with Beer Lady.....

I have tried sailplaning and enjoyed it, but can't afford it anymore.

I enjoy shooting (.22, and am Marksman with M-16 in National Guard), and archery.

I enjoy watching racing....NASCAR and others.

Sports I do not especially care for include basketball, soccer and rugby, running/jogging, skydiving, and weight lifting.

Being born in Detroit I have to go with the Wings, although the Tigers may win a few more games this year. I was a baseball player in the early days but now I stick to golf and table tennis. (safer sports)

Hi, all.

Well, there's hunting and fishing (see related thread in the Cove). I used to lift weights, but got tired of being hurt (not hurting, but being hurt) all of the time.

Something I really enjoy, and highly recommend, is autocross (Solo I) racing. That's the "run what you brung", cones in the parking lot, type of racing. If you want to have a good time, and/or learn how to control an automobile, this is it. Inexpensive, too. Right now, though, the thought of doing this in my Dodge Intrepid has not been exciting enough, but I suspect it will be soon. Check with your local SCCA chapter or Porsche club (even if you do not drive one) if you are interested. I would imagine at least our European friends have something similar, and surely the Japanese folks do as well.

Along those lines, I do watch NASCAR, but I wish we had better (or even any) Formula 1 coverage in the States. Now, THAT's racing.

I love to watch Hockey - all levels. That is my first and foremost sport. I use to play up through High School.

Next would be College Football then the NFL.

After that comes College Basketball, NBA, Golf, Track & Field and Baseball.

The sports I participate in are shooting, sky diving, golf, bowling, billiards, paint ball, poker and softball.

Claes I know what you mean, my knees don't allow me to do alot of sky diving anymore.

I enjoy playing/participating in...

  • Baseball/softball
  • Figure skating
  • Mountain biking
  • Hiking
  • Walking
  • Going to the gym
  • Downhill skiing
  • Tag football - just learning it though
  • Dragonboat racing
  • Whitewater rafting
  • Bungee jumping (into water only)
  • Volleyball
  • Soccer - mid-field or net for me

I enjoy watching...

  • F1 racing
  • Figure skating (mens or pairs only)
  • Hockey (NHL, worlds)
  • Downhill skiing
  • NFL/CFL games
  • Nordic skiing (cross country skiing and shooting)
  • Freestyle skiing
  • Soccer

I am shocked at my fellow quality geeks. Were you all past members of the ****'s Angels or something? HOCKEY as a favorite sport? Are you sadists or what? I thought the only true hockey fan was Charles Manson.

And poker as a sport? What's the world coming to?

Now please excuse me while I go watch a real sport - the International Chess Championships are coming on.

Now a real sport is to get a tray of ice cubes. Spread them on the sidewalk, and have each person "claim" one. Then the race is on. Bets are placed on which ice cube is the first and which is the last to melt. No one can interfere with the ice cubes, including blocking the sun, or blowing, or anything. You just sit there with growing excitement over which ice cube is melting the fastest, and which is melting the slowest. The suspense is overwhelming! You can feel the excitement in the air. It is better than the 7th game of Lord Stanley's cup with a 3 to 3 tie, and under a minute to play! You just gotta try this!
