Spreadsheet Validation and Release

Hi All,

We are jumping in to spreadsheet validations and I have a question regarding when to perform it. So we build our spreadsheet, and then need to do a change order (CO) to release it into our doc control system (essentially, load it to a secure location for employees to access). We can't load it into the secure location until after the CO is complete.

So, would you perform your spreadsheet validation before starting the CO (to validate the spreadsheet is correct before uploading), or after the CO is complete and you have loaded the spreadsheet to the secure location (to also be able to test accessibility)? Or maybe some combination, where you validate the functions before the CO is complete, then do a "transfer" check after the CO?

Just curious how others are handling this.

Thank you!

Option A
1. Preliminary validation check prior to CO.
2. CO approved but not released.
3. Perform validation.
4. Approve validation report.
5. Release CO to implement change.

Option B
1. Preliminary validation check prior to CO.
2. CO approved and released, but spreadsheet not implemented into any process.
3. Second CO that implements spreadsheet use with a process.

Option C
1. R&D level spreadsheet and process approved and released.
2. Validation performed on R&D level spreadsheet.
3. CO approved and released that transfers R&D level spreadsheet and process to production level.

See how in all of these, the software is validated prior to use in a production process.

That makes sense, thank you!
