% Study variation low, % tolerance high - GR&R Interpretation help

Hello,

Would anyone be able to help me interpret the attached minitab results? My %Tolerance is very high and my %study variation is very low.

the part*operator interaction looks like its pretty spot on and distinct categories are acceptable (9).

Any ideas?

This indicates that you have a lot of product variation relative to the tolerance. If the parts selected reflect the actual process variation and if you have correctly entered the specifications then your process is probably not capable of meeting specifications. In that case the gage may be used for SPC, but not for inspection to tolerance.

Thanks for the info.

Isn't having high part-to-part variation good? It shows that the samples varied enough so ensure the measurement system can measure across the tolerance band?

It is okay if your gage is only used for inspection, but it also causes confusing results that have to be explained. Just don't do that if your gage is used for SPC because it will render the results invalid.
