Sub Contractor Audits

Hi,

I am working in the Mechanical Sector, construction of process plants, data centers ect..

I have a quiery related to audit schedules.

I am trying to create an audit schedule for over 50 sub contractors, that will suffice for ISO 9001 criteria.

Trying to fit some of the various sub contractors into a schedule is proving challenging. The audits can be irregular and when needed. Many are client driven, project specific. Works can be short timescales.

Others are easier to schedule.

Its proving difficult to prove and display how we train sub contractors to our quality standards, tick the boxes of ISO 9001 and also deal with ensuring cold hard engineering compliance on time, within project deadlines.

A sub contractor could be working on 4 different projects. Trying to keep things client/project specific and or contractor specific is another challenge.

I would appreciate anyones thoughts on the matter.

KInd regards,

John

Hi John,

Welcome to the Cove...first has your firm conducted and initial supplier eligibility assessment or audit...in other words aside from any particular contract or project, have these suppliers been vetted ?

Cheers optomist1

Hi Optomist1,

I would be resonsible for QA vetting. I review the orgsnisation and pass it else where for setting up accounts.

The vast majority would have a payment account set up with my organisation historically.

My first thought was why you believe all 50 need to be audited? Maybe so, but that seems like a lot! Are you requiring "boots on the ground" audits for all 50? Is this the only means you have for qualifying and approving subs?

The audits can be irregular and when needed. Many are client driven, project specific.
Not following you here. What do you mean by they can be irregular, why is (your?) client driving audits, how do specific projects influence?

Works can be short timescales.
Do you mean that your engagement with the sub is short? If so, is it ongoing or just a one-time use?

prove and display how we train sub contractors to our quality standards
Why should you? How does this affect audits?

tick the boxes of ISO 9001
If that's all you're doing, you're wasting time.

That's getting closer, although an audit is just a peek under the covers. You still have to manage the sub and track historical performance.
