I have a question about getting my suppliers registered to ISO9001:2000. Is there a specific date prescribed by TS as to when this is suppose to happen? I have a date of 12/03 but am not 100% sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can develop a plan that brings your suppliers into compliance with TS2 and/or customer specific requirements within the three years of your registration date.

Sub Supplier Requirements-Guidance

Here is a link to guidance on the subject from the FAQ page at the IAOB site. (Acronym apparent on web page). (broken link removed)

I understand that there are several CB auditor expect the sub-supplier to be certified to ISO9001: 2000 prior to the organization's TS certification. During the pre-assessment, the company shown the committed plan from the sub-supplier but not accepted. The CB has also suggetsed that if that canot be done, then the organization shal obtain approval from their customer. Could anyone pls confirm this?

The standard makes it clear that "Unless otherwise specified by the customer, suppliers to the organization shall be third party..." (7.4.1.2) It does not say that there shall be a plan. So, it is pretty clear that the expectation is that suppliers will be registered prior to the organization being registered to TS.

There is nothing in the guidance document, nor any Sanctioned Interpretation that changes that requirement.

HOWEVER

The wording in the FAQ identified above does give a three year window to get this accomplished. To my knowledge FAQs do have the same level of authority as the TS, or the SI, but many registrars are using it to allow organizations time to get their suppliers on board. I personally do not think that the registrar is obligated to operate within the parameters of the FAQ.

I would print out the FAQ and give that to the auditor, and advise them that it is their job on the line, not yours. They will probably back down.

Hope that helps

Implied approval for QS in Customer Specific Requirements?

It seems that TS 16949 customer specific requirements for Ford and G.M. seem to present an exception, or at least some wiggle room, for subcontractors whose QS 9000 certificates are still valid. (broken link removed)
