No!!!
You will get more people putting in "silly" suggestons just to hit targets. You will however, get what I call, the"serial submitter" which balances things out.

You need to look at numbers of ideas pro rata to the size of your company. I have attached some figures done through research of member companies of a UK based charity called "Ideas UK" I found them extremely useful in the 5-6 years I was involved. They have a number of overseas memebers as well, i.e. BAE systems US.

It may be worth looking up there website.

I like the article All You Need Is Trust because it shows what is possible.

But the Texas nameplate Company made a rather drastic change in order to enjoy the results described in this article. The employees were given power to do much more than make suggestions. That required a profound change in managing systemic improvement, but the benefits were also profound because they include pride, a very powerful motivator.

If you can succeed in something like this employee team effort on a small scale, your suggestion program might eventualy be designed to have the team receive suggestions, consider their merit, present them as options to management for approval and resourcing, then reward the entire company using cost savings or profit boosts. Such rewards might be small and seem insignificant, but might establish the suggestion-improvement-reward model as valid and functioning.

It must be made purely a voluntary and participative approach and backed by motivation from top management. Recognition given for good suggestions gets more suggestions. A helping hand from anybody to assist someone make and drop a suggestion is most welcome

Totally agree with you on all points. It is important also that your evaluators are trained properly. I always find that initial evalation should NOT be done by management but by peer group team/employee. This gets rid of any personal differences within the work place. Evaluators need to have similar traits to auditors. Be impartial, see the bigger picture and committed to continuous improvement.

I will private message you some of the information and any documents I think my help you. Getting the buy in from seniourmanagement is crucial, without that you have a hard task.

I ran a successful scheme for about 5 years until there was a change of management aout 6 years ago and now senior management has changed again they are coming to me for advice on how to re-instate the scheme.:notme:

I will not get chance to send you the stuff today but will certainly try tomorrow.

Can you describe evaluation stage? Is it a ACCEPT or REJECT process?

Evaluation is not only accept or reject stage, it is also where the actual financial impact is evaluated. The evaluation process is something like this:- see if the idea is implementable; whether it is technically feasible; whether it is financially viable; whether it will face any stiff resistance from those who have to implement it; what will be the financial savings that would accrue in terms of men, material, time etc all converted in terms of money - both as a one time measure and as a recurring feature. All these are considered in the evaluation process. But it is difficult to forecast. Unless the evaluators are trained and matured enough they may be swayed by various factors and evaluate it wrongly.
