Re: Summary of Changes - ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 9001:2008

We are scheduled for a Reassessment Audit in Aug 2009. I received a notice from the auditor who works for the 3rd party registrar. I am somewhat mystified by his statement listed below "Please ensure that you have updated your knowledge and revised the QMS (Quality Manual, procedures, etc.) to the ISO 9001:2008 version of the standards as this Reassessment audit will be used to update your certification to the 2008 revision." I am not aware of any changes to a QMS, procedures, etc. that ISO 9001:2008 requires. Help!

There is no significant changes to the QMS. Our registrar, Buereu Veritas, specifically looked for the change that included IT as a process and how that was measured. Other than that, I did not revise the QM or create a document that listed it as a process.
We achieved registration to the revised standard as well.

Some, if not all, registrars have a summary of changes. Quality Digest also provided on in their January 09 issue.

Find a summary of changes, preferably from your own registrar. Check your quality manual and other documents and confirm that the current wording of ISO 9001:2008 matches your documentation and practice.

Revise your documents and practices as needed. Make sure that your documents are also revised to show "ISO 9001:2008".

It should not be difficult, as the revision from 2000 to 2008 has no new requirements.

You should also get a copy of the new standard.

If you need a summary of changes, PM me, and I will send you a copy of the one the registrar I work with uses. You would be better off using the one from your registrar if possible.

Let's assume that your auditor simply hasn't worded this properly - but that the intent of this advice was something along the lines of:

"This time we're going to audit you against the 2008 version, and upgrade your certification to show that. Before the audit you should make sure that:
  1. you're aware of the 2008 version and its changes revisions
  2. have considered the impact (if any) of this new version on your QMS, and
  3. if necessary have revised any related documents in your QMS, perhaps your Quality Manual or policies, procedures, etc.
"

You should certainly read through the table of changes - it's printed at the end of the 2008 version of the Standard. Read it, note carefully the revisions & rewording, and consider if there is any impact to your existing system. If it was already well designed for your needs, there may be no changes necessary! If you weren't already doing 'good stuff' around outsourced processes, for example, you may need to busy yourself.

hi
I think the most change in 2008 is in clause 4.1-a . we should determine process not identified its.it is radical change. we should set goals and then determined what process we need to rich our goals.( I think so)
Are u agree with me?

Re: Summary of Changes - ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 9001:2008

My native language is not English but when i ask from expert i hear that it is different between " identify" and "determine" and it is important when u want design the QMS in your organization.
Let me know cos your native language is English, is it different between this two words?
