Name your favorite moment. Mine occurred yesterday with the women's soccer team. Abby Wambach, who hit the winning goal is from Rochester, NY - I play indoor soccer with her sister, and Abby showed up and played a game with us a couple years ago. (I'm sure she was laughing at the pathetic play of a (mostly) over 40 Recreational level team, but hey - I still played soccer with an Olympian!)

Other favorites:

Gymnastics - (the controversy is BS)
The 100 and 200m Men's taking Gold, Silver and Bronze
Women's domination in softball.

In some ways I'm glad it's almost over, because I've spent too much time in front of the tube!

I was admittedly uninterested prior to the start, but ended-up watching some coverage every night. I loved the women's beach volleyball :agree1: Also liked Rulon Gardner wrestling after so much adversity in his life. Would have liked to see more softball. I also like watching the gymnasts do floor exercise -- amazing stuff!

Marathon, Basketball, etc.

Dear Laura M:

I loved the track and field events. In my younger days, I used to do 13.5 to 14.0 seconds on the 100 meter dash - always wanted to try for that gold! Still at it. If they ever think of an Olympics for Seniors, I might go for it - in a few more years. Looking forward to the other track and field events and the Marathon.

Yes, the women's soccer was exciting, especially consider the U. S. team is has the oldest members, here's a link to nice article by Celizic.

I am also look forward to the basketball finals - both men and women.

Some of my favorite (non-USA) moments was when:

El Guerrouj of Morroco won the men's 1500 :applause:

Robert Figl of Germany smoked his competition in the Men's Wheelchair 1500 :applause: :applause:

And the lady from Mongolia finished the Marathon almost 90 minutes after the leader. She didn't win, but she did her job for her country. She competed and she finished :applause: :applause: :applause:

I give a heary congrats to the US members, partiularly the women who are somewhat outshinning the men. :applause:

The men generally compete as individual members of a team, whereas the women generally compete as a team. Big difference! :2cents:

My favorite...

The mis informed Greek fans booing our 200 M boys and then.................

GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO USA

Great moment. Made me proud to be an American

Absolutely. People loving their sport and giving their all. The overpriced NBA "stars" are losing right now. No tears being cried on my end for them.

I like the swimmers and divers. I am not much on diving as I have a fear of heights I vividly remember going up the steps of the 30ft platform when I was in US Navy bootcamp but the jump was easy once I closed my eye's. Lets see that was in September, 1959. :beerdive:
I do love to swim, always have, again must be a carry over from my US Navy days! :lmao:

My favorite moments come when some competitor with an oversized ego or "attitude" gets his/ her come-uppence (loses, stumbles, whatever) - especially when he/she is a professional beaten by a mere amateur who has inferior facilities at home, no sponsorship etc. - for that is when we know what sport is all about: bigger than any competitor.

China winning ladies 3m diving yesterday was good.
