Aussie Aussie Aussi

Ok, I know I'm biased but I loved seeing the Australian 4x100 freestyle & 4x100 medley relay teams win (the girls). Sorry, but I love seeing the US loose in the relay ever since Gary Hall Jnr's air guitar display of a few years back ;)

My Favourite 'moment' was El Guerrouj accepting his 1,500 meters medal.

Then there were 17 other Gold Medal reasons why I was smiling. Yes.... our Little country won more medals per capita than any other (Yes! I'm gloating).

Now does this say something about our sports-mad country or the fact that my taxes have established more Federal and State Sports Academies and Institutes than new Colleges or Universities in the last 12 years?

My Big Questions are:Who is going to beat the following?
1. Mr Phelps,
2. The USA Softball Team (we were happy to take the 1 and only run off them and get Silver) and,
3. The USA Womens Basketball Team (they have beaten us 12 times and our girls are starting to hate the colour Silver).

My favorite moments come when some competitor with an oversized ego or "attitude" gets his/ her come-uppence (loses, stumbles, whatever) - especially when he/she is a professional beaten by a mere amateur who has inferior facilities at home, no sponsorship etc. - for that is when we know what sport is all about: bigger than any competitor.

China winning ladies 3m diving yesterday was good.
My supplementary posting:

The Brits winning the 4 x 110 relay beating a team having a loud mouth member who after the semi final poured disdain on the other teams, saying the gold was assured and in the bag. :D Those watching from Mt. Olympus have a wonderful sense of humor! :lmao:

I liked when the crowd boo'd until the judges adjusted the score in the mens high bar compitition. He should have won. Yes he took a step but so did our guy and the moves were much more. I forget what contry he was swingin for.

I hope many here will agree with me. I am most certainly not "anti-American". I am, however "anti-attitude". Seeing over-paid inflated egos getting beat by those who just love the competition has to be the definition of poetic justice.

Favorite moment? How about the Iraqi soccer team's success?

That was Nemov from Russia and he got shafted. The Italian who won the Gold did have the best total routine. Nemov should have gotten Silver and Hamm , Bronze. I like Paul Hamm, but Nemov was a hair better. IMHO anyway.

Come off it, Randy!

You have already admitted there never is an "H" about your views! You really meant "IMO" not "IMHO" - admit it!

I agree with Randy. However, if Hamm did the exact same routine as he did in the all-around, he should have been there. The Russian deserved a medal. His routine was exciting, and I didn't see any form breaks. But then again, the judges look for things the uninformed don't see - slightly bent legs, unpointed toes, but the 5 release moves topped everyone, and those seemed very tight. Hard to tell. I think Hamm got some sympathy vote from the Judges going after the booing frenzy. They deserved the boo though.

Despite all the security concerns and 'unprepared' reports Athens got, from what we saw everything went great and they should be very proud. I wonder how many behind the scenes crisis management scenarios took place. The organization involved with an event of that magnitude must be unreal. I know one person that went, and I'm interested to see what they thought of the security, facilities and transportation.

My favorite moment just happend a few minutes ago....the US basketball team lost in the semi-finals!!!!

Call me anti-american or whatever, but I love it when the States lose - especially to Canada or other small (population-wise) countries. That and I really do not like the NBA players attitude, so I hope they lose the bronze medal game as well.

Thats why I love the Olympics...powerhouses losing to the small guys. Good times...
Jealous Canadian,

I don't root for you guys to lose....Did you have a team?
