Supplier requesting Customer PPAP submission

One of our suppliers requests PPAP submission for component, they are receiving from us and assembling to part finally supplied to us.
What should I do? Am I supplier and 7.3.6.3 is a right clause or 7.4.1.3 waives such a request?

I think the first thing you should do is go read your purchase order / contract. That should spell out your obligations.

Do you sell the component or is it customer supplied material?

Either way your "supplier" is responsible for the quality of the component
In 7.4.1.3
"The use of customer-designated sources, including tool/gauge suppliers, does not relieve the organization of the responsibility for ensuring the quality of purchased products. "

Or 7.5.4
"The organization shall identify, verify, protect and safeguard customer property provided for use or incorporation into the product. If any customer property is lost, damaged or otherwise found to be unsuitable for
use, this shall be reported to the customer and records maintained "

The question is why do they want the PPAP and do you want to give them.
If automatically they request PPAP then at least you know the system works.

You require PPAP from them for the part they are supplying, are you expecting them to supply the PPAP of their other suppliers?

Don't quote clauses talk together and decide what you both need and help one another.

Supplier has already submitted PPAP for part including our component. File, parts were evaluated and approved. There was no question related to our component. Now, they are requesting PPAP and I do not have it.

Regarding subsuppliers, we expect only steel material cerificate, because our supplier is a stamping parts manufacturer.

I do not understand intent of their request now (after approving of PPAP for final part) and I have used a clause quoting to find whether TS says something regarding this item.

Next question - does your customer pay for PPAP samples?

This is probably part of their system which requires a PPAP.

Ask them why they need it and then give them a waiver.

As to paying it depends on the customer

Whoa! This is hurting my head! What a loop in the chain!

Your supplier could argue, that requesting PPAP from their supplier (I.e. you!) is part of ensuring the quality of the part and hence fulfilling the clause that Howard has cited.

However, I agree with Howard, sit down and talk to your supplier/customer :confused: and decide whether you supplying them with PPAP is going to add value to the supply chain, or whether it will be just a paper exercise. After all, the component part comes back to you anyway.

If there is no value, perhaps the supplier/customer:confused: is just trying to review/benchmark their own PPAP's against those of others! Or perhaps an auditor has pulled them up on it? This is a possibility.
