Somashekar,

You asked me for an example but they belong to my clients.

Then I rushed off a reply without checking your experience.

What, exactly, do you want an example of?

Many thanks,

John

PS: I thought the Nissan life cycle assessment webpage was a good example too, but I'm still looking for an example from a smaller company.

somashekar,

Yes, but I was disappointed by the range of industry sectors participating thus far in the UL Environmental Product Certification scheme.

You see very good analysis of environmental costs in papers that compare wind turbines with other ways of generating electricity. Every component is inventoried for its environmental impact.

I'm hoping Apple restores my iPad's ability to copy and paste soon. When I get back to the office I will provide links with a proper computer.

Thanks,

John

Graruss,

ISO 14001 allows you to use your own criteria to determine significance.

This paper shows how to determine and present the environmental impact of the parts comprising a wind turbine.

On the 80:20 principle (or the more focused 50:4 variant) you can easily draw the line of significance to determine the parts that are significant environmental aspects according to your own criteria.

This then allows you to focus you environmental controls on the suppliers associated with the signifiant environmental aspects.

Hi John, :bigwave:
Regarding the computation for the significance, is there a specific formula that can be used to determine the significance score? Or are we the ones who will set it up? Example: Significance Score = Likelihood x Environmental Impact,
where Environmental Impact comprises the following:
Severity, Legal and Other Requirements, Result to Environment, Emergency
Potential
Please advice.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Raffy

Hi John,
Good Day! :bigwave:
We have an existing Risk Priority Grade Scoresheet for OHSAS18001, can we used it as a reference in developing the Significance Score Sheet for ISO14001?
Please advice.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards,

Please allow me to interject,

The organization decides how to arrive at scoring. Some add, others multiply. It seems sensible to base your formula in a manner that places an emphasis on severity and/or regulation.

Some choose to acct based on a scoring threshold, but you can always decide to control operations for an aspect based on another factor. I have seen clients decide to operationally control an aspect based on overall score, but also on the basis of the severity/regulatory number - even if the overall score ends up low.

I hope this helps!
