Hi all,

I wonder if you could help me with your experience of supporting devices after a distribution contract has come to an end.

I am a manufacturer selling via distributors in many areas of the world. There are some contracts that are due to terminate relatively soon and there is a possibility that a replacement distributor may not be in place in time.

Therefore, in the knowledge that the end-user requires support and possibly consumables, how does your company deal with such an issue?

One sure way is to expand the region of operation of a distributor in close vicinity to that unrepresented region. You not only help in that distributors growth, you also will reduce your burden of finding a new distributor, and will end up having few big distributors to manage and they will add strength to your strength.

Just because your "contract" ends does not mean you cannot offer an "a la carte" service on an as when and if needed basis for a specific dollar charge either quoted in advance or upon request for a specific product or service.

I was even willing to do business with customers I had "fired" (usually for slow pay or sleazy tactics like asking for lots of extra "free" service.) My terms for such "ex-contract" customers was cash in advance.
