1.) The advantage / disadvantage of SwimLane / Flowchart is still unclear to me.
When should you choose which shape?

A swimlane will typically use the standard process flow chart symbols. The advantage lies solely with displaying the relationships between different functional groups. If all the work takes place within a single group, there is no benefit.

Qualygirl,

Your core process flows from customer needs to cash in the bank (or continued funding if not for profit).

Purchasing would be a key process within the core process or a support process to enable the core process.

Do you want examples of both types of swimlane flowchart with the corresponding textual procedure for a key process?

Such duplication would be a waste but someone here may be able to help.

Attached is an example of a Procurement process in the format we generate with our own software - it is a cross between graphical and narrative, and uses swimlanes (and RACI).
