Tell me about AS9015 Requirement for the delegation of Product Verification

We have a job that references"AS9105 Requirement for the delegation of Product Verification". Can anyone shine some light on this subject. I realize that it is a standard written by the "AS" people, but I really don't want tot have to purchase the standard. Is our customer basically telling us that if we trust another company to inspect for us we are still liable if something is wrong?

According to the G-14 Americas Aerospace Quality Standards Committee (AAQSC) there is no standard named AS9105 Requirement for the delegation of Product Verification.

Is it possible that they made a reference to "AS9015 Supplier Self Verification Process - Delegation Programs - Sep 26, 2007"?

AS9105 appears to be a product specification for pins.

ValleyGirl,

You delegate product verification to your supplier when:

A. The supplier is selected for their ability to verify conformity before delivery,
B. The supplier is obliged by your contract (incl the specification) to verify conformity before delivery, and
C. Your organization monitors how well they fulfill their verification responsibilities.

A lot of organizations are missing evidence of item A. And others may issue their inspection or testing procedures to the supplier with no contractual obligation to comply.

I'm not sure what AS9105 says though.

As mentioned already, AS9015 (NOT AS9105) is a standard used to provide uniform requirements for product verification and approval by DESIGNATED INDIVIDUAL(S) at a supplier. From the SAE website:

Scope:
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) further defines the requirements for a delegation process identified in Aerospace Quality Management System (AQMS) standards (i.e., AS9100, AS9110, AS9120). This standard establishes minimum requirements for the delegation of product verification to an organization's suppliers; outlining requirements for the initial delegation (qualification/selection), maintenance, and removal/withdrawal of delegations.

Rationale:
The process to delegate verification of product to a supplier varies, especially at the second, third, or fourth tier of an organization's aerospace supply chain. Lack of standardization increases risk in the aerospace supply chain where product verification has been delegated without adequate assessment and oversight of the supplier's capability

Please note that the requirements for delegation of approval authority to a supplier rep must be defined according to AS9100 Rev.C. Obviously, if delegation of product approval is not exercized, then this becomes not applicable.

So if my company is not relying on a supplier to verify conformance of product and I am performing incoming inspection of the supplier's product myself, would AS9105 be a moot point?
