Temporary Deviation Procedure

Hi All,

I am trying to develop a deviation procedure for my company.
Can you help me find an "example" of this procedure ?

First of all why do you want to create a procedure for deviations? Are you talking Government, Automotive, Aerospace what type of business?

We are a manufacturer of fabricated and machined components (welding) for the Transportation, Forest Products, Off-road Machinery, Construction, Mining, and Heavy Equipment industries.
Basically, I want to put in place a deviation process, on who does what and when.

Don't you think that maybe you could address this in a "Non-conforming Material" procedure, that would define the process of segregation, disposition, and authority to disposition non-conforming material?

Not necessarily.
Here's an example: Let's say we are a manufacturing company and we assemble different chassis according to blue prints. Due to a screw (pozi) shortage we cannot finish the assembly.
Now, engineering is trying to substitute the screw with another one (non-pozi).
Here should my deviation process kick in.
Engineering will need to complete a "Temporary Deviation Request form" and send it to the customer for approval. One positive feedback from customer is received production can finish the assembly.

What I want to do is to develop and implement this " Deviation" process and state who suppose to do what, when and how.

How about your customers, do they have forms for you to use? We have several customers that have deviation forms we must complete before shipping in non-conforming product. And your example is just that, the product doesn't conform to the requirements. Internally, I would use a non-conforming material report, and submit it to the customer.

How about creating an alternate part database with approval from engineering, customers and suppliers? For something as common as a bolt or screw.This would eliminate a lot of added paperwork and approval down time.
