Hi all,
Would like to ask some few guidance from all experts here.
We are already an extablished testing laboratory for many years but only catering our own products and our own standards. Now we are planning to expand and cater products from other companies also, hence we haven't been certified as a testing lab by any governing international body before, can we also make tests and issue test reports to our potential customers? considering our customers will agree with our test procedures and standards.

appreciate much any advice from you all here.

Welcome to the Cove.

Considering that your customers will agree with your test procedures, you should be in business. However, will your customers' customers accept it? Often, they are the deciding party instead of your customer.

Hi Harry,
Thanks much for your inputs. Should customers requires us some accreditation, should ISO 17025 be applied to us? hence we are only testing products and not more into Calibration? Are there other standard accreditation we need to consider?

Great site you have here.

If you can let us know the scope of your service (the range of test you do), I am sure the experts can give you much better and appropriate advice when they check in later (it's week end now)

Yes, ISO 17025 is somewhat like a pre-requsite for testing and calibration laboratories to get accreditated (for medical labs, it is ISO 15189). By obtaining this accreditation, you can assure your Customers of your technical competence and having a quality management system in place.

I am attaching an info from ILAC for your info.

Thanks Ajit, lot of info to chew into :agree1: If ever we go into 17025, is it also required to be accredited on individual ISO test standards?

Yes, The individual tests that you will perform need to be covered under a Scope of Accreditation. Just having Guide 25 (17025) doesn't make it universal for everything in the world. ie… Mechanical testing per ASTM xxx, MIL xxx, Chemical Testing per standards xxx, yyy, zzz etc…

Short answer, yes you should become accredited under ISO/IEC 17025:2005. The specific technical standards will be addressed in your scope of accreditation.

As for finding the right accrediting body, since your profile suggests you are in Asia, got to www.aplac.org and look at the signatory bodies, and there may be one in your country.

Hope this helps.

I'm at awe with so much thanks on your inputs given here guys. I've been in the field of metrology and QC for the past 15 years, but still a newbee in this International Accreditation thing :) As i've said, we're focused on our own products before but now management wants to know the impact if we will cater other brands as well.

I've given my intial views to them going for ISO17025 accreditation, then as expected on management level point of view, they ask me back what would be my best Cost Estimate for the 17025 accreditation. It all boils down to cost :)

What could be the best approach on this? I mean, i know i can get the cost needed by any AB in our area for the standard accreditation scheme. What other factors need to be considered that can add up cost?
