The 'CQI' as a Professional Qualification - advantages?

At work someone mentioned the CQI (in the UK). Relatively new to quality (about 2-3 years but less than 1 year seriously) coming from a technical background. Years ago as a fresh Metallurgy graduate I wanted to become a chartered engineer but never really had the career support from employers to get there. Now I've gone into a proper job (quality engineer/manager) and it made me think again about gaining a professional recognition of some kind.

What views do you guys have about the CQI and gaining their membership at some level? I suspect I have to start at the first level (associate) then rise through Practitioner to Chartered Member.

Is it worth it? What are the advantages compared to the disadvantages?

Hi, if you would like to know anything specific please feel free to send me a PM. For my part I have been a member (from Student through to Fellow) for over 25 years now. I know, I look so young! :) I also worked for the CQI for a while and have been a volunteer for many years and am involved with the local branch and do a little bit of the governance for their Quality World magazine.

So you have to read through the bias but I would recommend it ... alongside the Cove, of course! :D
