The difference between ANOVA and Xbar-R studies

Starting to get Involved

Could you please support regarding a question of an IATF auditor, he asks me on how we can separate between a MSA study ANOVA and a Xbar-R study?
our customer asks to follow the ANOVA study but the software that i'm using displays almost the same values however the method used.

Thanks in advance.

The Xbar-R Gage R&R study is an approximation that was developed before computers were readily available. ANOVA provides a more accurate result, but in many cases the results are close enough for practical purposes. The real advantage of the ANOVA method is that you can calculate the interaction between the operator and the part. The Xbar-R method cannot do that.
