I am surprised. We don't have anything nearby like you have described, but there is an organic beef farm about 10 miles from where I sit and a herb farm about an hour away. I never would have thought that there would be any interest around here. Fresh herbs are very hard to come by.

Oh, and for tomatoes, squash, home made pickles, etc., our farmer's market does very well and should start up in a couple of months.

I'm with you Brad. Can't wait for that first tomato!

Ah - the classic perception of NJ is only what one sees from the airplane window when landing in Newark.

Besides - all those chemical plants shut years ago. Except for DuPont down along the Delaware border and that all blows toward Philly.

I have a garden right beside my house. My "next door neighbor" recently moved into town, he puts in a garden on my property close to his old house and we share that too. He plants typically "southern" stuff like collards, butter beans and what they call "salad" around here. (basically a leafy greens mix), while I do the tomatoes, onions, squash, radishes, cukes and the like. Maybe I should look into "leasing" out garden space to the city dwellers? But, they'd have to come do their own, I don't hardly have time to take care of mine.

There's an interesting business model...
Lease some sq ft. Let people plant what they want. Water it for them and keep critters away.

kind of like those brew your own beer or make your own wine places.
