For some reason I am having problems getting on to the AIAG website today. I was wanting to find out what CQI stands for, so thought I would ask my fellow covers. What does the CQI stand for in these AIAG specifications?

Thanks,
Doug

How about:

Continuous Quality Improvement

(I have not found a definition in the standards or the AIAG website)
Friends,

Kales is correct!

I contacted AIAG (The horse's mouth so to speak).

Here is the response:

Continuous Quality Improvement.

Hello,

as far as I understand the thread there will be no interpretation for the included processes in CQI-11, cause you can find out in a training?

Nice, when is the best time to come to nothern US, my boss will be absolutly happy if I told him I have to to fly to US for such an training. :)

FORD, GM and Chrysler are global player with global supplier, AIAG should act like this, and give people outside US the chance to get the same information.

So far I haven't seen a training for the CQI in Europe.

I just rode that the Welding CQI is coming soon, :applause: Jippie, than I have 4 assessments to fill by copy and paste.
I still don't understand the meaning of all these assessments. maybe someone can explain it to me.

Regards,

Tamara

Tamara,

Each one of the classes is one day at (member 275.00) or non members at
375.00 a pop.

Really i use all CQI 7-13 and If you have had any experience with ford and GM
doc. and understand the processes, it is no problem, biggest thing id they want all testing and daily testing done in house. I still have certified labs
cover my testing from suppliers.

Just read each one and go through each tab.
Understand what is being said.

It is not hard.

Tamara,

I understand your frustration. It seems that the OEMs keep dumping standards on us and expect us to comply.

There are a lot of similarities between CQI for heat treat, plating, coating (and welding when released). It contains a section about quality management systems and a section about "job audit".

Prior to the CQI standards, the OEM had different standards and it appears that they are making those older standards obsolete (Ford has obsoleted HTSS for example).

If you have a robust and good quality management system and have robust and up to date process controls, then your company should have no problem completing the CQI questionaires. If not, then the standards give you an opportunity to improve your processes and apply some of the best practices that are documented in the CQI.

Spring is a nice time to visit the USA for a training session or you could invite one of the covers to enjoy a beautiful Fruehling (spring) in Deutschland (Germany).

I am scheduled for April 11 meeting and will gladly share any knowledge I pick up. In the meantime, we are still told that CQI 9, 11 & 12 do not apply to all suppliers.

We currently are replying to inquiries with the following:

"We have been informed by a core member of the team that developed the CQI-12 document that it does not apply to the types of coatings provided by our company. It applies to electrocoating, Autophoretic coating, dip/spin application of organic coatings and a few others but not to fluoropolymer, nylon patch, thread adhesives/sealants, etc. We are attempting to obtain 'official' documentation confirming this."

Our latest information is this has not changed and the confirming documentation will be published soon.

It is my understanding that CQI-11 does apply to this process. As was explained to us at the training session the CQI series remains a customer specific requirement. If you have a doubt, check with your SQE.
