Re: The Next version of ISO 9001 - Any news?
ISO kind of did ask for your opinion. XX,XXX coments were received. I beleive this survey was available in 2004. Here is the text from and ISO document describing the world wide survey that was available on the ISO website.
ISO 9000 Series of Standards – Year 2000 Editions
Survey of user feedback
The International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) Technical Committee no. 176, Sub-committee 2 (ISO/TC 176/SC 2) Quality Systems is carrying out a survey of user experience with the year 2000 editions of the ISO 9000 series of standards.
A survey questionnaire has been designed to ascertain the views of users of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 9004:2000 in relation to the standards, their suitability and their application.
Your assistance in this project, by informing your members and associates about the survey, will be of great value in helping us. This should lead to improvement in these standards, or the production of relevant supporting documentation to assist users in understanding and implementing them.
We have tried to make the survey as easy as possible for respondents to complete. We do not expect it to take more than about 15 minutes to complete.
Persons wishing to participate in the survey may do so by clicking on this link:
http://isotc.iso.ch/webquest/tc176/index.html
The survey is to be completed on line. Any person who has some knowledge or experience of the standards may participate. There is no limit to the number of persons who may respond in any one organization.
The results of the survey will be made available as widely as possible, e.g. through the ISO/TC 176/SC 2 web site at
www.bsi.org.uk/ios-tc176-sc2.
Thank you for your co-operation.
In addition, here is some text from the most recent international meeting for ISO/TC 176 in Novi Sad, Serbia, May 2008. This text is related to "transitioning" to ISO 9001:2008. The text is not conclusive but it gives me the feeling that the transition from 9001:2000 to 9001:2008, for organizations already registered, will happen during surveillance audits and will be not be a big deal.
Resolution 7E (2008) – ISO 9001:2008 Amendment Impact
Noting that ISO 9001:2008 does not provide new requirements, ISO/TC 176 resolves that
“ISO 9001:2008 has been developed in order to introduce clarifications to the existing
requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and changes that are intended to improve compatibility with
ISO 14001:2004. ISO 9001:2008 does not introduce additional requirements nor does it
change the intent of the ISO 9001:2000 standard.
Certification to ISO 9001:2008 is not an “upgrade”, and organizations that are certified to
ISO 9001:2000 should be afforded the same status as those who have already received a
new certificate to ISO 9001:2008.”
