Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

1. Kyle Walls
2. Administrative Assistant to the President of my company.
3. Manufacturing, Precision CNC machining
4. CAL Precision, Inc.; Riverside, CA (www.calprecision.com)
5. Too early to think about this question... need more coffee first! Like another on this thread, I am young (27) and offered the position of being responsible for getting my company up to speed on ISO 9001: 2000. And am learning as I go. All of the businesses I have worked for in the past have already been registered, so I am quite familiar with how it all actually works. I have just never had to "write" any of it myself.
6. My pet peeve... right now is, not getting anywhere on getting answers for pressing question I have with ISO certification/registration.
7. What I would change: Everyone's understanding, here at my company, of what ISO actually is.

Glad that I found this website. Seems like I will get all of my questions answered here!!

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

My name is Tuan Tran. I'm a QA manager for a metal stamping company in WI. We make precision stamping and small assemblies. Most of products are automotive products. I am not new to the automotive world. However, I am new to quality control. I have a bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and pursuing an MBA. I found this website very helpful.

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

1. Name

Clare

2. Job Title or explanation of what you do

Quality Management Coordinator: management of improvement projects to better compliance and functionality of our quality system

3. Industry you're in or have been in

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, but previously medical device and contract research

4. Company you work for and location

BIG pharma company in the UK

5. Length of time in quality function

In this role just 2 weeks, but in quality as a whole 6.5 years

6. Something personal that sets you apart
I'm always a cheery soul - always!

7. Your pet peeve in quality

a) Lack of buy-in from the shop floor.
b) Enormous hulking beast of a quality system that has grown over years and has the got the company so bogged down that they can't see a way to change/get out of it.

8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?
It's such a bug part of all industry, universities should make it part of their degree courses (not stand-alone, but a module in each discipline) so that graduates coming to industry have an insight to what the quality function is and how it relates to the science of their role.

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

Hello All,

I just want to start by saying what a great resource this site has been, especially for a newbie to Quality management and Regulatory affairs like myself. I figured I'd been lurking long enough and that it was time to introduce myself.

1. My name is Francois
2. My title is Quality Management Systems Manager, which is quite funny since I have no prior QMS or regulatory affairs experience, but I'm ready to learn!
3. I currently work for a company that produces medical imaging software for clinics and hospitals.
4. I won't mention the company name, but we are located in Montreal, Canada.
5. As eluded to in #2, I am new to this position (1 mth) and am hoping to be a 'quality' quality manager within 6 months (is that too ambitious?).
6. I can't really think of anything that sets me apart for now.
7. I don't really know enough about quality yet to get peeved.
8. The only thing I want to change in the world of quality for now is my level of understanding.

I have no burning questions yet, but with a surveillance audit scheduled for February, I'm sure I'll posting again early in the new year.

Thanks everyone for the great questions and answers!

-Francois

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

Hi Covers,

My name is Ed. My screen name comes from a paraphrase of an old saying -- yes, it's "Two Eds are better than one."

I am an independent consultant in Quality Management Systems. My academic background is in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications. My early experience in electronics and software design evolved into project management. Being a project manager made me aware of the need for quality systems. Since 1993 I have been working with quality systems in various capacities -- registration program manager, lead internal auditor, procedure writer, training developer and provider, process improvement team leader. My main area of expertise is ISO 9001; I also have worked with TL-9000, the Capability Maturity Model for Software, and the Baldrige Criteria. More recently, I've been exposed to CMMI, ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 13485.

I am semi-retired, so in between consulting contracts I have time for instructing college students in computer literacy, programming computers to play board games, playing soccer, and being a husband, father, and homemaker.

I believe that two people who always agree with each other have little to learn from each other -- in other words, disagreement is a learning opportunity for one or both parties. There seems to be a lot of learning opportunities in the forums, so maybe I'll drop in from time to time to join the banter.
