I am trying to figure out how to use this site. I am very new to QA and manufacturing and very excited about the belief of putting quality into our company. But I am sooo frustrated with employees just wanting to do the minimum to try and pass the ISO certification. I have so much to learn and I am excited about the answers I will find from all of you in these forums. Thank you so much for your valid information.

My name is Miriam Goodson and I am very new to quality. My background is customer service, but my company, Finger Lakes Engineering, wanted to revive their quality system and charged me with its resurrection. I am currently searching for strong, reputable training so I can pass my enthusiasm on to others!

Kathy:
Don't be too intimidated. If you have a good quality system and just "say what you do", you'll probably end up with most of the bases covered. Don't fall into the trap of "papering yourself into a corner" with too much documentation and you'll be OK.

The Covers are all here to answer questions and point you in the right directions. Don't be timid about asking questions. You may get the occasional wisecrack, but you'll also get invaluable advise!

Time in Quality: I am not a Quality Professional like most who venture to the Cove, but I spent 25 years as a Federal Agent investigating companies that provided non-conforming products to the DoD, so I have a good appreciation for the work that you do. Now I operate a company that provides investigative support to law firms that Represent Whistleblowers who file complaints (Qui Tam lawsuits) against companies supplying nonconfroming material to state and federal agencies. We also perform Due Diligence Investigations to assist our clients in evaluating businesses they are purchasing or considering for use as vendors/suppliers. In both of those activities we use ISO Registered Quality Auditors to assist in our inquiries.

6. What sets me apart: Hmmm, I guess its he fact that I view QA Systems in a somewhat different light than most people because I have seen how such systems can be abused to misrepresent the quality of products being produced. A QA System means nothing if company managers have no ethical standards.

7. Pet Peeve: The fact that most companies rely on vendor certifications as the sole basis for acceptance of material.

8. What Would I Change: Any system in which the QA and Engineering Managers work for Manufacturing or Sales Executives
