Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

Dear PeaceWong

Oh... VE Stand for Value Engineering. This is a Design Tool in which the Design and Development Engineers make us of this technique to design a product with less parts, more functions. Or same number of parts as in the old design but more function.

I though Flextronics had employed a Lean Black Belt in Y2003 to implement lean.

I also conduct training for companies in Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma in Singapore and China Wuxi. We have office in ShenZhen at NamShan.

You can look into the website ecciinternational.com/sg

Thanks and regards

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

Dear KT,

Sorry for my mistake. I don't familiar with this company before I joined in. You're the eldest specialist on Lean & Six Sigma in Flextronics? For past three 3 years, I worked as an industrial engineer in Delphi. You realize that there are many differences on lean between Delphi and Flextronics. Do you work in Flextronics now?

Regards
Peace

Charles Scott - 2007

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

I have been a long time lurker on this board, and have found it a great source to spark thinking. A little bit about myself:
My name is Charles Scott and I am a Master Black Belt / Quality Manager for American Express. I am located in Greensboro NC.
I have worked my entire career in services, starting at Walt Disney World, where I worked my way through college (BS and MS in Industrial Engineering) including stints in WDW's IE dept and Finance dept. I have been with Amex 11 years, primarily as an IE, but involved with quality since 1999.

On a personal note nobody would ever guess that I am half Brasilian and love the music, food and culture of Brasil.

My personal pet peeve in quality is using quality tools to justify decisions already made, instead of using quality tools to unlock the potential.

If I could change one thing about the world of quality, it would have to be to make non-quality people realize that we are actually a fun loving lot. :)

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

Holla all, my name is Peter.
I'm a Quality Assurance Co ordinator.
Wires and cables Industry
I'm only three years in the business (yeah I'm green)
I try my best in what I set my mind to do.
Quality is free, but why do I have to pay to learn it huh!

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

Hi All this is Anfield Red here!! (This is in reference to Liverpool Football Club for those not in the know)

I am currently applying for a contractor position in an electromagnetics firm so thought I would take the time to do some catchup on this subject as it has been some time since I have used ISO 18001 (or BS8800 / ISO 14001 Etc...)

Just to say what a great site and it looks as though there are some highly knowledgeable people out there - I will definately be returning to pick some of the brains - especially on the electromagnetic front.....:)

Nice to meet everyone... "You'll Never Walk Alone"

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

Enjoyed the intros above...some familiar companies and industries.

1. Name- Jim B (IndySon refers to my status as oldest son of a USS Indianapolis CA-35 Survivor, the WWII Heavy Cruiser that took the atomic bomb to Tinian & was sunk right afterwards. Dad spent 4.5 days int he water, and luckily, survived)
2. Job Title or explanation of what you do- Quality Manager, Chief Cook & Bottle Washer
3. Industry you're in or have been in- Manufacturing, Fabrication & Assembly/Test, Military & Commercial
4. Company you work for and location- Prefer to keep a lower profile just in case
5. Length of time in quality function- Since 1982
6. Something personal that sets you apart- 6 foot Asian American...LOL...nobody can tell but they all look at me and wonder, "What is he?". In today's PC world, it's just not possible to ask any more
7. Your pet peeve in quality- Too often I discover "Manufacturing Rejects" are placed in quality (i.e., one is too many) both up & down the external chain from me. Bad idea, they can hurt you twice as much there...well, unless you ignore your quality people anyway
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do? Go to the "proof is in the pudding" concept. Instead of telling everyone how to comply with your quality requirements, expending great energy with systems definition & compliance inspection beyond bare minimum, we should all focus more on examining the results (the product) and seriously track results...then reward those who deliver a quality product (meets all requirements/specs) with more work and absolutely cut off those who do not get the job done. "That's all I got to say about that"
