Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself / Say Hello!

Hi All, I've been a part of this forum since around 1999 (I guess that makes me an old timer here - wow! That makes me feel old, using the term "old timer" regarding an internet context).
1. My name is Jerry Eldred
2. I'm a Metrology Engineer by trade, having learned through the school of hard knocks. I got my engineer title through Motorola back in the 90s.
3. I've been in what feels like all of them. I am currently involved in the biomedical industry (medical electronic hardware R&D and manufacturing). I previously came out of the semiconductor industry, and have worked in the US Navy, test equipment rental company, aerospace/defense, another semiconductor company, HF radio/communications, third party calibration consulting work.
4. I work for a contract calibration company, hired to operate the calibration program in a major international conglomerate's factory site in northeastern Massachusetts (just moved up from Texas)
5. I've been in the business since 1978.
6. My religious values. I travel regularly to mission areas of the world, including Haiti, Guatemala, and south Asia.
7. Pressure to compromise.
8. I may not be too popular for this one, but I would like to see all the in-house calibration labs come back (which have been greatly replaced by third party contractors - as the pressure to compromise quality would be removed). I would like to eliminate all the "lick-m-stick-m" labs that have driven the pricing structure so far down that GOOD calibration is in some places in danger of extinction.
