Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself/Say Hello!

HI All, I'll take a stab at this;

1. Name: Carol W.
2. Job Title: Associate Librarian - I research current topics, provide copies of standards, and other typical library jobs.
3. Industry- I work for a diversified company in the Aerospace and Automotive Industries
4Length of time in quality function- I have never worked in quality but interface with them in providing copies of standards and other documents necessary.
6. Something personal that sets you apart - I'm also an artist and have developed by own style of gentle charicatures.
7. Your pet peeve in quality- Since I'm in the library, I'll tell you my pet peeve in the library-- the person who comes in and wants to know where that red (or yellow or blue or green) book that he took out last year is. Sometimes, I think it would be best if all the books were arranged by color rather than Library of Congress.
8. I end with how I found the forum & why I joined it. I was asked to find VDA standards and a copy of a 'submission form'. This was a new request for me. I found the forum by accident through google, took a look and thought it might be helpful for me to belong.
So, here's my problem for the forum: the only information the employee gave me is; find a copy of the VDA Product Submission Form. After stumbling around the intenet & the VDA website, I decided that I needed help. So....HELP!
Thanks,
Carol

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself/Say Hello!

Hello All!

I'm not new, but I thought I'd let you know that I am back off a sort of sabbatical.

1. Name John
2. Job Title or explanation of what you do: CME / Programmer
3. Industry you're in or have been in: Defense /Aerospace
4. Company you work for and location: Wilson's Machine Products, Winter Park FL
5. Length of time in quality function: 20 yrs
6. Something personal that sets you apart: I fish because work is for people who don't know how to fish  , I might out surf you but probably won't 'cause I'm old and a longboard guy, anyone who has ever tasted my lasagna or my manicotti has said at the very least that it was among the best they ever tasted, and I play a heck of a game of chess
7. Your pet peeve in quality: Not really a peevish sort of person
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do? really, really empower each person in each process to maintain the quality of their own work, and then and ONLY then hold them accountable.

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself/Say Hello!

Hello There!!!

1. Erik Alburg

2. Six Sigma Master Black Belt - in charge of world-wide training of Lean Sigma, and problem solving guru (the hotter the fire, the better)

3. The Automotive Industry for most of my career

4. ArvinMeritor based out of Troy, MI

5. For my Entire Career - 10+ years... started out with GM (obtained Red X Master), JCI --> Six Sigma Black Belt, ArvinMeritor --> Six Sigma Master Black Belt

6. I am the BEST problem solver in the industry.... and I am modest

7. Make decisions without any kind of data.... No basics (no FMEA, no control plan, no SPC)... Lazy people who don't want to take the time to find, gather, analyze the data... I hate the phrase "not enough time to do it right, always time to do it again"

8. Force people to stop and think, use data, and make the right decision. I am not a very good guesser. In fact, every problem that I am sent half-way around the world to solve goes completely opposite the way that I think that it will before getting there. The problem with the quality organization of the world is that they think that they are smarter than they actually are. Don't get me wrong... these are some very SMART people. But you can't use just your brain to solve problems... you have to use data in a methodical way (DMAIC). Sorry am I off topic?

Nice to be here... Let's talk some quality!!

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself/Say Hello!

I have really gotten a lot out of this forum and all of you who participate. I was curious, though, who all of you are and what you do. How about letting us know a little bit about you and your background?
1. Jenni Arnett
2. Quality Engineer
3. Automotive Metal Stamping
4. Wren Industries Tipp City, OH
5. 5 yrs
6. I would say that I am boring and ordinary...others think I am the opposite of everything...I speak the language of a 17 year old.
7. NOT PAYING ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8. I don't want to change the world of quality - I want to buy everyone a COKE.

5. No time spent in quality but I have to deal with them everyday
6. I'm currently in my capstone class for my bachelors in business management
7. My pet peeve in quality is that they can be a tad anal....just a tad
8. If I could change the world of quality, I would streamline all their processes and procedures to retrofit the whole company; I can't tell you how many times their processes conflict with my own in engineering.
