Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself/Say Hello!

Hi my name is Niki Skelly.
My job is Quality & Regulatory Manager.
I work for a Medical Device Manufacturer, we make dental caries detection devices.
The company is CarieScan Ltd, in Scotland, UK.
I have worked here for the last 2½ years.
We have been trading in the UK for some time now but are preparing to submit a 510(k) so I'm hoping to get some advice here, this process is all new to me.
My pet peeve is that everyone assumes Quality is just the Quality Managers responsibility, it's not, it's everyone's responsibility!

Regards:bigwave:

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself/Say Hello!

Welcome all new comers. You have made the right choice by becoming part of the Cove Family.

Just some pointers for the new comers:

1. Ask questions.

2. Be specific and as in depth as you can with your questions. It makes it easier to provide good answers.

3. Don't be afraid to ask questions or even provide your insight into a question.

4. If you don't understand something about the Cove's software, there are two things you can do: A. Ask one of the friendly Moderators and B. Read the posts in the "How to use the Software" forum.

5. If you feel that a post is not right or inappropriate, use the "Report Post" button. This sends an email to all Moderators, and it will be discussed and any action necessary will be taken.

6. Use the Search Function to see if the question has been asked before.

And last but the most important pointer is:

7. Have fun!!!

:bigwave: :agree:

I am extremely pleased to see so many new members from all over the world.

Welcome to the Cove!:bigwave:

As business becomes more and more global, the synergy we experience here in the Cove from mingling folks from so many different cultures will stand us in good stead in our professional lives in dealing with folks from different cultures up and down our supply chains.

The more we learn about the "tricks and traps" from our fellow quality professionals, the more we are enabled to provide better service to, and earn better rewards from, our various organizations.

To all the newbies (and to the old timers who read this):

We've got a great thing going here in the Cove; I'm looking forward to each of you making it even greater!

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself/Say Hello!

Hello all,

The name is Pete Hunt, I am the Quality Manager of an electroplating company in London, England. I have been a Quality Manager for over 15 years now and the main bulk of my experience has been in the Engineering/Aerospace industries. My pet peeve is specifications and the need of companies to give us their own specs when a Def Stan or Mil Spec would have been more than sufficient for their requirements.

I have really gotten a lot out of this forum and all of you who participate. I was curious, though, who all of you are and what you do. How about letting us know a little bit about you and your background?
1. Name
2. Job Title or explanation of what you do
3. Industry you're in or have been in
4. Company you work for and location
5. Length of time in quality function
6. Something personal that sets you apart
7. Your pet peeve in quality (pet peeve is a minor annoyance that can instill a great level of frustration)
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?

Eric
Jerry Anderson, Quality Control Manager, Automotive, Alto Products Corp. Atmore Alabama, 35 Yrs, I am sold on the details, making sure the details are covered on any job usually gets the job done correctly. I stress the importance of covering ALL the details to all my employees. My pet peeve is - People in the industry think that the quality department is responsible for all the Quality in the Company when quality personnel only touch maybe 5 % of the product. To Stress the importance of communications
------------------
See you down life's highway!

Name - Jerry Anderson
Job Title - Qualitn Control Manager, Alto Products Corp. Atmore Alabama, specialize in Automotive Transmissions Clutch Plates, Gears and related components 10 years, worked in General aviation Acraft Industry for 25 years as Quality Supervisor, Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, manufactured Ge. Avia. A.C . Engines and accessories. I tend to pay particular attention to Details, the fine details are sometime overlooked and could be very important to the finished product. My peeve is that most everyone in Industry thinke the Quality Department should be reponsible for ALL QUALITY, but the truth is that Quality only touch maybe 5% of the product. Quality cannot be inspected into a part it has to be built into it.

I would emphasise GOOD COMMUNICATIONS, very necessary to the function of any Industry and is the # 1 Problem in Industry
