Jim: I'd like to hear more about your foray into "root cause analysis." Start a thread in one of the Forums to tell us more about it. We have lots of experts here; maybe one or more may have some insight into making your next foray easier and more efficient.
I may start the thread this weekend. I would appreciate direction on which which Forum would be most appropriate.

BTW, is there a limit to the size of posts?

If the subject matter has to do with anything remotely connected to one of the Forums, that's a first place to start - a forum covering the subject (automotive, medical, aerospace, ISO, Ts, etc.)

I'm not sure what the new software allows in size of posts. I do know that private messages have a character limit. If you find you have an exceedingly long post, send a private message to the Moderator for the selected Forum and ask for advice on how to proceed. Sometimes a combination of attachments solves such issues.

The software is set to something like 50,000 characters per post. If you need more space, you can ask me to help or post 2 consecutive posts. Attachments are essentially limited to 3 MBytes.

The last two forums on which I was active had 1,000 character and 4,000 character limits. In the very short time that I have been lurking here I do not believe that I have seen a post that was much larger than 4,000 characters of original material.

More later, probably much later.

Both Marc and I may have approached or exceeded that 4,000 limit with original material (not including quotes from other sources) - we are both notoriously long-winded when we hit a particular topic which excites our passion. I know I have had to split private messages into two or more transmissions because I regularly exceed the smaller limits there.

Most posts are, obviously, not 50,000 characters. But that is the 'maximum characters per post' that I have set in the control panel. If you look around, you can find some very long posts.

Steelwoman's Trainee

Hi there, I'm the infamous "Trainee Pup" Steelwoman's been referring to in her recent posts. She's leaving and I have the unfortunate job of trying to learn everything I can from her in two weeks or less! YIKES! A little info: I was previously handling subcontractors here, but before I joined this company I had some exposure to quality, specifically QS9000. But it's been awhile.... gulp.

Steelwoman said I was ready to pee on the carpet in anxiety over my new job - well, in reality I haven't pee'd yet, but I feel it coming... keeping those legs crossed.

Steelwoman showed me this site as a resource, so ya'll should expect to see me from time to time, sniffing around in true "pup" fashion.
