Hello from Bill

1. Name
Bill (short for William), Aussie.

2. Job Title or explanation of what you do
I'm an official sadist - after 20 years of Quality Management in the Auto Industry there is no more appropriate title.

3. Industry you're in or have been in
Automotive - Toyota, Ford, GM, DC and Mitsubishi mostly.

4. Company you work for and location
I've worked for a number of global suppliers in plastics, lighting systems, tooling, castings (Al foundry) and metal pressings as well as sealing and dampening systems (NVH)

5. Length of time in quality function
It's a life sentance.

6. Something personal that sets you apart
There are a few things, one is my belief in people. I've seen ordinary people rise to extraordinary levels of performance and achieve outcomes that can reduce a grown man to tears. Second is a down to earth approach to make systems work for people, not the other way around as so many "so called" experts would prefer.

7. Your pet peeve in quality
Too many highly paid theoretical experts making a mess of industry. A degree doesn't make anyone capable of doing this job - it's listening and doing that make the difference. Too many talkers!

8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?
a) Introduce a world wide accreditation program for Quality Consultants, 90% would fail.
b) Find a better international terminology for Quality Manager that is not a "fad term" or "wanker phrase" - a good quality manager doesn't manage quality - good quality is the result, we manage systems, culture hearts, minds and knowledge.
