Up here near Lake Erie, we get this interesting phenomenom (sp?) called "lake-effect" snow. At the moment, we've got about a foot and a half since last week, so it's looking like we're gunning for a white Christmas!!! :D

You're not alone in the lake effect snow arena. Depending on the winds we can get Lake Erie lake effect, or Lake Ontario. :bonk: That can generate snow whether there is a storm or not. But this storm hit the entire region - definately not lake effect. It looks like we're done for the time being. It's beautiful outside now. A real Christmas card scene looking out the window.

Kids were bummed - no snow day.... Roads are pretty clear, so as long as the busses can make it.

We are in our typical South Carolina mode for December, 50's in the daytime, and 30's at night. We may hit 60 mid week. I am originally form northern Ohio, and have lived in Michigan and Indiana..so know about some snow, and ice.
Don't miss it one bit, but do miss my 'Yankee" friends.

Snowstorms here in Vienna.

We had them yesterday evening and all the same since today afternoon.
Many accidents on the highways - business as usual, when the second snow comes to Austria... :frust:

It's usually pretty hot down here but I thought you would like to see today's picture.

Just kidding, it is an old picture and the real location is, I believe, ****, Michigan. :biglaugh: Still, I think it tells us all, things could be worse.

We were supposed to get 3~5" in the valleys and 12~18" in the mountains overnight, but all we got was a trace of snow at the house. Looking out the window right now it's sunny, and just warm enough to melt everything that's not in the shade. The mountains are nice and white though. :)

Here in southern California the weather is just fine. Cools off at night to 45-50 F and warms to 65-75 during the day. An occasional sprinkle is welcomed.

dust from MN????

We here are no strangers to "lake Effect", but has anyone out there had there cars covered witth the red dust that blew in the stratosphere from New Mexico??

This happened here in West Michigan about 11 AM Tues EST (12/17/03). Saw in my local paper that a wind storm in New Mexico (approx 3000 Km away, as the bird flies) blew some red dust up into the upper atmosphere. A rain shower dropped this dust all over everything exposed to the weather. Everyone at work thought it was a toxic waste release or some kind of bio-terrorism attack.

(I'm sorry to admit that I was afraid to touch it),

(thank God it was harmless)

Life in the modern world, don't you just love it?
