Just in case anyone was interested in making donations other than monitary, go to www.thebreastcancersite.com and click on the fund free mammograms. With every click donations are made toward providing free mommograms for someone who cannot afford it. The site also has information for donations and sponsoring.

The best part of this deal is that it costs you nothing and someone who needs a mamogram receives it.

Advertisers post information on the page in the hopes that you will order from them with a percentage of your total going to breast cancer.

Either way, you are obligated to nothing, and someone benefits from a simple click.

Well, after spending a week in Tampa on training (oh, the sacrifices we make!), I was ready to pound the pavement this weekend with my Mom for one final training walk!

Yup...this is it, boys and girls, this weekend is the Walk. I'm taking Friday off for registration and safety videos, etc. And the walk starts Saturday.

Of course, we're all eyeing the weather and Isabel...getting nervous.

Highlight of yesterdays walk, though, was....

Two cups of coffee meant that I had to go to the bathroom really REALLY bad! Being out in the country, it was as simple as finding our "designated pee spot" (long story). Got there and took a different route in behind the rocks where I found a jewelly box, full of jewellry and money! Well, I really had to go to the bathroom so, without looking around for the bad guys or dead bodies, did my thing and then got my Mom.

I called the police when we got back home. This road, however, is a bit of a policing nightmare. The east of the road belongs to one region and the west side to the another. I called the east side since that's the side my parents live in. They called the west side region who called back for better directions.

They found the box, however, thanked me for calling in and are now tracking down the owners of the box.

I'm not sure what impressed me more. Being honest enough to leave the money or the fact that I continued on my original mission to go to the bathroom even though I could have been in danger.

Moral of the story? When you gotta go, you gotta go! :vfunny:

Thank You!

Oops! Guess I should have mentioned that, too! Thank you, Cindy!

I made the goal!

While online, it does not yet show it, I have reached the $2000 mark!

Thank you to everyone who helped out. Donations and kind words have helped me through my training. And hearing about the Ruth's of this world inspire me even more.

In Tampa, I met a lady by the pool. We started talking. Turns out both she and her husband (an elderly couple) both have cancer - she didn't say which kind - but admitted that they are both dying. They spend 8 - 10 months a year visiting various cancer treatment facilties in Phillie, D.C., and Tampa, depending on their needs. We had a lovely talk...everything from Jeb Bush's idea to turn high school into a 3 year programme to charity events like "The Weekend to End Cancer" to countries we have visited.

After being in the pool for 2 hours, I decided that food was a requirement. As I was drying off, Marian came up to me in the pool and bowed. She thanked me for helping her...as if my walk dontations were going straight to her. I almost started crying (yeah, I'm softie...despite being in QA).

So, thank you again...from Marian and myself. Your support has been amazing and once the pictures are ready, I'll attach them in the post.

As it stands, however, it's a very busy week coming up. Friday is Registration Day. Saturday and Sunday is the walk. Monday morning I have Quality Review. Monday afternoon, I'm in a car driving down to Kentucky for a few days and a meeting our company's Quality Group. I've warned the group not to expect me to wear my typical high-heels. ;)

God Luck

RcB,

My thoughts are with you. Good luck with it this weekend. I have a friend that does the Terry Fox Run each year and is selfless in her endeavours to raise money for charity and get people involved. She also runs in the half marathon for our Australian Heart Institute and this year she Won. It was her reward and we are all very happy and proud of her.
I was fortunate enough a few years ago to be part of a charity drive for the 'Camp Quality' foundation. I don't know if it is in North America but it helps kids with cancer have weekends away and basically tries to improve their lives. It was both moving and uplifting. The Camp Quality patron is actually an American that pays the wages for the full time employees of the foundation (must be a great person) so all the monies raised goes to the kids.

Good Luck and have fun. (both the walk and the Audit :vfunny: )

Thanks, Greg! :) I used to do the Terry Fox Run as a child and, going to university in Ottawa, I spent many hours sitting downtown right by his statue...until it was removed due to ongoing graffitti. He was an amazing guy...not perfect, known to have a temper...but his cause was great and he gave it his all.

As for the walk, due to the impending hurricane, the committee for the walk has issued a new list of stuff to bring - the walk goes, rain or shine:

  • Sleeping bag
  • Tarp
  • Bathing suit - for the showers
  • Air mattress - also serves for floating down flooded streets
  • Nike Air rubber boots - Just Swim It!
  • Scuba gear
  • Dinghy and two paddles
  • Personal flotation device
  • Red light/green light to indicate port/starboard should you float out into the Great Lakes

Roxane,

My thoughts were with you and your mom all weekend. Was it raining, was it cold, were you tired, etc.

How did things go?

Did you get that emitional surge when you crossed the finish line?
