[Thermal powerplant] Why "Generation of electricity" is a special process?

Hi,

[It's about thermal power plant]

Why the "Generation of electricity" is a special process for us? (it now states in our Manual, but no one knows why)

It's one of the major processes (and SOPs), we have over 50,000 measure places (and encoders), sophisticated equipment and computers that measure, record and display all events in milliseconds, and huge displays to show and alert all that's relevant. Every single critical event is known immediately, by many ways, even SMS if chosen so. Many people 0h-24h holds eyes on whats happening and regular operation.

What kind of "Process validation" we furthermore need?

What " ...resulting output we cannot verify by subsequent monitoring or measurement, and as a consequent deficiencies (incompleteness or inadequacy) in the product become apparent (known) only after the product is in use or the service has been delivered..."?

Our real special processes are welding processes (mainly outsource), because of huge boiler pipes system, and possibility that even little failure in welding could stop the whole power plant and so make huge costs.

Vladimir,

I agree. The output of generating electricity can be and is verified before it is fed to the grid for distribution to customers.

Even though the process generating electricity is designed (and, therefore, validated) to deliver the required cycles, voltage and amperage, it does not qualify as a special process in terms of clause 7.5.2.

Sounds like somebody made a decision once - research the history of the revisions of that manual and find out when it first appeared, and who was involved. There may have been reasons, but they don't sound valid from these postings.

normzone,

I can see the logic of designing and validating all production processes so less time and money is wasted on verifying the product.

But that does not necessarily make a validated process a special process in the sense meant by clause 7.5.2.

Perhaps, though, this is why generating electricity was misclassified as a special process in the first place.
