Thermometer Vendor that can Supply MSDS

I know there are a lot of laboratory folks out there :bigwave: so I'm hoping one of you can help...

We're looking to change over from mercury thermometers to red spirit thermometers in our lab. I can source the thermometers I need (300mm long, 76mm immersion, temp range -10 to 150 degrees centigrade) from a number of vendors here in the UK, but I cannot find anyone who can supply the correct Material Safety Data Sheet for the red spirit in their instruments.

It is a legal requirement in the UK (CHIP regulations) for the vendor to provide this data in the (now commonplace) 16 section format, and yet none of the vendors I have spoken to can do so. Two companies have sent me makeshift attempts at the data sheet, but these were not in the approved format and were therefore no use to me.

I'm looking into taking things further with these companies - under the CHIP regulations if I ask for the data sheet they HAVE to provide it. I suspect they are sourcing from a cheap supplier in a country that has no laws in this area. :notme:

However I would much prefer to find a vendor who can sell me the goods and provide the correct and complete data without any more hassle.

So - is there anyone out there who uses red spirit thermometers? Do you have the full 16-section MSDS? If so, who is your vendor?

Doing a Google for "red spirit thermometer msds" resulted in a number of hits including Cole Palmer Instruments. Give them a try. I think they may have what you are looking for.

I should point out that I'm not lazy! I have been Googling for weeks on this one using the type of search string you suggest - I guess our Google searches are UK-centric. It has thrown up some vendors, but as I said in the OP, none so far have had the required info in the correct format.

No need to point that out. I know that the searches can be region specific. I was able to download a MSDS from the cole parmer site. It's worth a call.
