I know there are a lot of laboratory folks out there
so I'm hoping one of you can help...
We're looking to change over from mercury thermometers to red spirit thermometers in our lab. I can source the thermometers I need (300mm long, 76mm immersion, temp range -10 to 150 degrees centigrade) from a number of vendors here in the UK, but I cannot find anyone who can supply the correct Material Safety Data Sheet for the red spirit in their instruments.
It is a legal requirement in the UK (CHIP regulations) for the vendor to provide this data in the (now commonplace) 16 section format, and yet none of the vendors I have spoken to can do so. Two companies have sent me makeshift attempts at the data sheet, but these were not in the approved format and were therefore no use to me.
I'm looking into taking things further with these companies - under the CHIP regulations if I ask for the data sheet they HAVE to provide it. I suspect they are sourcing from a cheap supplier in a country that has no laws in this area.
However I would much prefer to find a vendor who can sell me the goods and provide the correct and complete data without any more hassle.
So - is there anyone out there who uses red spirit thermometers? Do you have the full 16-section MSDS? If so, who is your vendor?
Thanks for your help.
