Tier 2 Part Approval where Painting is Outsourced

A new customer has requested a Tier 2 Part Approval as part of their PPAP Requirements, The only outside services we use would be our painter. Will a Paint Cert cover this request?

A new customer has requested a Tier 2 Part Approval as part of their PPAP Requirements, The only outside services we use would be our painter. Will a Paint Cert cover this request?

Is this automotive work? If it is, the chances are that your customer is expecting a PPAP submission (to you) from your supplier. The best source of information is the customer, because even (or perhaps especially) in automotive work there's there's no telling what a customer might actually expect to see.

A C of C from the Paint Supplier will likely not suffice. There are typically specific requirements for paint (Adhesion, Pantone # or Color Req., etc) that will require the supplier to perform and document testing and inspection activities. (They should reference some ASTM or other adhesion testing specifications on the drawing)

In addition, the Tier 2 PPAP will need to include an AAR (Appearance Approval Report) per customer requirements.
