Re: The devils in the details....
Neil - it sounds like you are on the right track. All of our drawings are electronic. When a print is needed, we print it and stamp it with "Issued to Job______" and enter the job number. This way the prints follow just that job through the whole production process. When the parts are stocked the paper copy of the prints are destroyed. Our M.E. Dept maintains control of the revisions and has the visibility of WIP so if a revision comes out the parts can be flagged immediately and new prints issued. We have had our AS/ISO certification for almost 2 years now and no auditor has had an issue with this. We do have a documented procedure that outlines how electronic drawings are handled and stored because we are starting to get alot of MBD and reduced dimension drawings where we have to make the actual working prints ourselves. Remeber as you set this up to Keep it as simple yet structured as possible. The easier a process is to work with the better it will be followed. AS/ISO doesn't have to be as complicated aas some people try and make it.
