Dear Mr. Bucey, thank you for your prompt reply. I am currently writing my bachelor's thesis and I am in need of exact documents of Toyota on quality planning, such as product quality matrix, process quality matrix.
Did you pose your request to Toyota with that explanation? Perhaps if you start off your request saying precisely you are a student, the name of your school, and offering to supply a copy of the finished thesis, you can work your way though referrals to someone at Toyota who will NOT rebuff you, but actually help and encourage you.
One of the major techniques we learn in the Quality profession is asking questions in a manner which explains why the answers provide value to both parties. If nothing else, you can appeal to the pride Toyota executives are continually touting is a mainstay of the Toyota Production System.
Can you give us an example of a single document you expect to view and how the original will be integral to your thesis more than the summaries and paraphrases available throughout public Toyota literature? (i.e. - what is the proposition of your thesis and how do you propose to develop it?)
When I wrote my doctoral dissertation years ago, I had to face a rigorous inquiry from my primary professor as well as the department head and other members of the dissertation committee on my topic and plan BEFORE I was allowed to proceed. It was important to the department and the school that a student not embark on a fool's errand which might frustrate the student and reflect badly on the department and the school.
Thus said, what tips or advice or cautions have you received from your professor?
