Was the training need also determined by the participants. If these 8 were just sent by their manager and they did not agree with their managers opinion that they needed a training, you might have wasted your time. You can not expect training effectiveness if the trainee does not have a training need.

Did the scores by the trainees meet the scores by their manager? What is the current training need for communication skills as defined by the 8 trainees? Did the training objectives meet the training needs for these 8 managers?
The need for this training was assessed based of the gap that the responsible managers were finding in working along with them as well as the inter function interaction that was happening. The nominees were in agreement that such a training exposure will be of use to them. It also reflects in the feedback given just after training from all the participants.
Jennifer.., Could you share some material about the Crucial Confrontation class, to see if I could also get some benefit from it towards the subject. Thanks in advance.
