I have recently moved into QM position in a company I have worked for over the past two decades. I can run all of the processes in all of the departments so know how the actual production side of the company works. However the transactional side is something new, the QMS system that is in place passes ISO 9001 however we are looking to transition to AS9100D, the control of our QMS over the past few years as we have had a massive expansion has been in mainly in the hands of an outside consultant. It has been recognised that this is not best practice due to my movement from H/S manager and into this role. Obviously I need training to help familiarise myself to the standards and the way these systems work so getting to the point would anybody recommend a training course regime I could follow we are based in the UK and we have been looking at bsi and nqa as providers but its figuring out what is a good schedule and who are good trainers. Any advice would be appreciated. :thanx:

Can I ask why you are moving to AS9100D? If it is to compete in the Aerospace and Defense industry, fine. If your company is doing it for any other reason, I would take another look.

We are a high quality metal finisher a lot of our customers are now producing aerospace work with which they want us to have the contracts for because of our standards. As a production standard we are above the requirements however we accept our management side is below what we require

mattador78,

There are many good courses out there. I would also tell you that spending time in the Cove will pay huge benefits. There are many folks in the AS/ISO world here that are willing to help that have vast knowledge of the Standards. I have never had official training but was able to develop, establish and sustain a viable QMS from what I learned here and other research. I owe much of my success to the Cove. Spend time here; it is well worth it.

Im spending to much time here, should be doing a bit more work lol. coming on here is helping I have a good understanding of the fundamentals already. We wish in the future to go for Nadcap as our work already exceeds the standard however our main customer is having to use someone else with an inferior product to us because we aren't approved for it. It comes to something when the work we can supply is only for test pieces however it is out performing the other suppliers work by a large margin. Therefore the amount of extra work we can pick up makes this more than worthwhile. Thankfully our customer is being extremely supportive as it is beneficial for them to see us gain these approvals as we are only round the corner from each other and have a good mutual working relationship.
