Transfer of Accredited Certification - A Diary

Boris,

I doubt if your customers make decisions to do business with your company based on the cleanliness of your windows!

The confidence delivered by your management system's certification should count for more than how well catered you are.

John
Thanks for replying John. The point I made earlier is that our customers are not interested in which certification body certifies us.
  • We thought they would be concerned with our move from a CB well known in the industry to one less well known - they aren't.
  • We were concerned that the accreditation body has changed from one IAF member to another - they aren't
So, as mentioned before, us having a certificate 'ticks a box.' Now we all know that the ability to provide services depends on the management system used and not on the certificate held.

That applies to us and to our accredited CB. :)

Boris,

When will CBs promote the value of their independent certificates to your potential customers as part of your strategic plan?

Could this be another reselection criterion?

Thanks John and for your PM clarification. Again the role of the CB in promoting us to our customer base is not a differentiator. The amount of promotion of us by any CB would be negligible compared with what we do in marketing ourselves. As I mentioned we expected more of a reaction from our customers to a change of CB but it seems they just don't care. :notme:

One of our sites has just been through the transition audit. A couple of gems for Covers:
  • Apparently process audits are not acceptable - you have to have a 'fill in' system audit to show all clauses have been covered
  • When we hand over a design for our customers to use when they see fit this is not acceptable - we need to provide evidence of design validation
Oh and our CB is telling us that we have to audit every location every year! :bonk:

Seriously? For clarification, is this a specific auditor or the CB 'party line'? I know enough not to 'teach Granny to suck eggs' here, but I'd be requesting clarification - in writing, naturally - from Operations Management on these issues...

Better than that I have issued an instruction to our regional guys ... if another auditor raises a similar finding on an assessment throw them off site and they will have my full backing. :notme:

I've checked the NC wording and it is vague but apparently the auditor was much clearer in their verbal presentation. I've added it to an 'issues log' running between me, my Group project manager and the CB. Still awaiting responses on my July questions, though. :bonk:

Despite the fact that you inherited the mess, I do hope you are able to keep the CB accountable.
Yes, the accountability issue is confused by internal politics but as the old saying goes rock is hard but water is persistent. A case of playing the long game. :D
Especially to their pre-contract-signing promises of delivering the scorched earth to you....:tg:
Now this is an area where I might struggle. I can certainly hold them to service delivery promises but (again for internal reasons) have no visbility of their achieving cost promises. I will be asking the question but have to ask whether the people who foisted the CB on us selected our CB may not want to disclose the additional costs I expect to see. ;)
