Myth or Truth?
My boss was told that TS is more manufacturing-friendly than our ISO system. This is the reason why I was asked to look into transitioning. The other reason is a potentially new customer who requires TS.
If by "friendly" they meant double the requirements and much more prescriptive, then I guess so. :notme:

I was told that government was of the people, by the people, for the people...
.

ISO/TS-16949 is a very involved standard, designed to be applied in a "mass-volume", high rate of automotive hardware production environment. Trying to apply TS in other scenarios tends to be very painful and cost-ineffective.

I knew all of you would get a kick outta that "friendly" remark. :tg:
I know it's more work but I get the impression that....he thinks it will be less involved for me and the entire company - you know, easier than ISO 9001. You see, mgmt's future goal for me is to free up my time and get out of the office and onto the floor to be a floor inspector. :nope:

Yeeessssssssssssss! That new "task" was requested by the new mgmt group and my new assigned boss. Because of my pre-existing workload (I had to give them a list of everything I do for ISO, etc.), I have yet to be told to go out and do it. It's been 2 months since that day.

How could something that requires everything that ISO 9001 does, plus a bunch of other things, be less involved. I could be wrong, but you may just have a PHB on your hands. At the very least I see some evidence of PHB logic.

Because Mgmt really does not know what TS is at all - no idea whatsoever. Someone told him that it's easier on the mfg side and we should do it. It will be my task to inform Mgmt of what they are up against. So I have been trying to find as much comparisons as I can to give a "visual" of the complexity and the $$,$$$ involved...all for 1 "potential" customer that we have no guarantee of getting.

Some selected items from the above link:
Typical traits of a PHB:

- Does not understand what his employees do for a living.
- Easily mesmerized by silver-tongued sales people peddling management or technology fads (or TS 16949).
- Gross failures of logic, such as holding long meetings to discuss why a project is behind schedule.
Perhaps just show them a copy of the TS 16949 standard. Everything inside the boxes is ISO 9001. All of the additional requirements are outside of the boxes.

What is a realistic TS registration completion goal (time) for someone like me who is ISO 9001:2008 registered? We have a great ISO program and it is solid. The organization (myself and actual worker bees) do a great job of maintaining and it shows in registrar & internal audits.

1 year?
