Transitioning from ISO 9001 to ISO/TS 16949:2009

What is a realistic TS registration completion goal (time) for someone like me who is ISO 9001:2008 registered? We have a great ISO program and it is solid. The organization (myself and actual worker bees) do a great job of maintaining and it shows in registrar & internal audits.

Do yourself a favor and ask your current CB to:

1. Provide you with a quotation for TS registration. That process and the associated numbers in themselves will be an eye-opener.
2. List how many TS auditors they have qualified in a 500-mile radius
3. Come to your facility and explain the TS certification process, do's and dont's.

I think your boss might re-think the goal after that.

If you have management support, 1 year would be reasonable. You'd want to start with a gap analysis, then set up the work in a reasonable project plan with some buffer built in for those unexpected items that always seem to pop up.

Plus there's the expectation from the TS rules, that there's a year's worth of data to support effective implementation...

Well, if I were a client/registrant that received misleading information from a CB sales person, I would seriously re-think that relationship. "Partnering" must mean something.
