Transitioning to AS9100 Revision C - Where to start?

I have a small machine shop and am beginning my transition to Rev. C, I have taken the transitioning class but am having a tough time figuring out how to start the transition. I have my processes planned out but I am a little confused on how to make them all flow together. Do I need to put a flow chart in my quality manual? Besides the new requirements in Rev. C how will my procedures be any different then they are now? Any clarification or examples will be much appreciated.

Thanks

I have one more question... My basically the same as outlined in the AS9100 table of contents? Is this acceptable?

I would suggest reading the changes document from the IAQG website and verify each clause to see if you have addressed the requirements.
The procedures should not have to be very different. Most companies add a procedure for risk management.

First - thanks DannyK - Good point!

Go to the IAQG website

https://www.sae.org/iaqg/organization/requirements.htm
and read the materials

then...

Do a Gap analysis

as far as your Quality manual - if you are registered to AS9100B then look at the new structure of the standard. if not... ok square 1

Let me know if you need more help or send me a PM

One of the major confusions of Rev. C is how to go about showing what your processes / activities are? Where to list them? A lot of people are saying that you should use a turtle diagram in your quality manual.. I thought about using a turtle diagram in each of my process procedures to show the inputs and outputs and to show what activities fall under that process. What is your opinion on this?

Thank you for your help, once I get going I will be good to go. I know what the requirements are and what the differences are I am just having a hard time with the structure of the processes / activities.

Can anyone share an example with me on how they are complling with the requirements in 4.2.2c? This is where all of my confusion is. I have read so many conflicting agruments on flow charts, turtle diagrams, etc. I am wanting to show the relationship between all of my core processes and how my sub-processes relate to each process. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you in advance. :)

As mentioned first perform your gap analysis to cover the changes from B to C. Update your documents as needed to cover these.

As for process maping there are many tools that you can use. The key is to make sure that you have for each process measures of quality and timlyness as a minimum that the owner of the process would review and act on.
It is best to have the owner be involved in the creation. Keep it high level to start and add detail as you learn more.

As we are going through this creation of our overall process what we found was orphan outputs and inputs. In many cases the name had changed from one process to the next but in some cases there was an output created that no other process or requirement appeared to need or care about.

We intend to change from a straight turtle diagram and add a basic process flow chart in the center block of the turtle diagram. Will post a template once I get it sorted out

I suspect the greater issue is AS 9101... and it's new guidelines for how you will be audited.....it will be a bit different and will take some time to put together the evidence to support the effectiveness of your processes.

I am in the same boat, no problem with updating our system, however in reading AS 9101, I can see the Auditor asking for more details with regards to effectiveness of internal processes.

If you do not have a copy, suggest you get one and review it!

Thank you all so much for your input. I done a gap analysis and am in the process of making sure that we are conforming to all the new requirements. I have been studying the process approach. For some reason it has not clicked yet. I understand how all of my processes flow together, but it is like I am having a tough time distinguishing from my core processes and my sub-processes. I am also having a hard time transferring this to paper.

AndyGR- Once you get your template created that would be wonderful if you could post it here. Maybe that will help me to better understand how the process approach works. I have got to make myself understand this more because I have a feeling my next hurdle is going to be setting up a process based internal audit.

Thank you all
