A majority of our production workforce is hispanic. We have tranlated basic instruction from English to Spanish using one of our employees to do this. We want to begin training some of these people for set-up positions, but our training manuals are written in English only. These employees can speak English, but can't read it.
Does anyone know of any good tranlsation software, where I can take a Word document in English and translate it to Spanish?
Be careful when you purchase the "Translator". They are traditional Spanish similar to what we were shown in school. There are so many dialects, and the Puerto Rico dialect caused us some problems. After converting, by whatever translator you use, have it proofed by someone who actually speaks for the majority of Spanish personnel you employ. If they understand it, you're golden. If not, solicite suggestions. JMHO

I would go the additional mile and also set up "English as a second language" class. This benefits everyone and makes the job a lot easier.
Excellent suggestion. We have already run into the dilect problem with some translations done by an outside service.
We looked at doing and ESL program. Frankly, most of our non-English speaking personnel are temporaries, and only work for us for about a year. It becomes more cost effective to write the intructions in English and Spanish than to send them to ESL courses. Additionally, if they have the instructions in their native language, it becomes easier for them to refer back to them.
I found some translation software called idiomax. It works with all of microsoft office, I think. I downloaded a trial version and it works well. The website is www.idiomax.com. It also works with other languages other than English/Spanish.
