Transportation - External Service Provider

We are an ISO 9001:2015 processing, warehousing, and distribution of metal products company, looking for industry "best practices" when establishing criteria for evaluating external transportation (trucking) service providers. Very few trucking/carrier/transportation service providers have an established QMS. All of our material and outside process providers have a minimum ISO 9001 or ISO/TS 16949 certification.

Question- Is there an industry standard certification for trucking that will suffice for determining the status of their quality system.
Note: I'm try to avoid having to audit or self survey hundreds of transportation providers. We are an ISO 9001:2015 processing, warehousing, and distribution of metal products company, looking for industry "best practices" when establishing criteria for evaluating external transportation (trucking) service providers. As far as I know, there is not a trucking industry specific quality standard. I worked for one of the big heavy truck manufacturers over 10 years ago. I did not see any references to any standard then, even though the company sent around summaries of the trade press. Recently I was curious and read a fair amount of the trade press, and did not see any references to a standard either. The industry is mostly small firms with a few big players; you will probably have to decide if one of the big players meets your needs or work with a small company that will give you the extra care you appear to be looking for. Because margins are low in the trucking industry, be prepared to pay extra for anything special you need.

So there's no aerospace standard or accreditation program for vetting logistics companies? So will an internally developed SOP that has been approved by the aerospace OEM suffice?

There is nothing to keep a trucking company from ISO 9001 certification. I have called on some that are. Although I would not recommend it, they could also be AS9100 certified.
