TS 16949 Clause 5.6 - Management Review Requirements - Without a meeting?

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you were meeting TS 16949, section 5.6 (Management Review) WITHOUT holding a meeting?

I've worked at companies where the phrase "Management Review" was always a part of "Management Review Meeting" - it was assumed that periodically (i.e. every year) you hauled the executives into a room and presented a Powerpoint Presentation on the State of the QMS.

Technology is better now - you an have conference calls, online meetings with shared desktops, etc. but it's just another type of meeting.

I'd like to hear from anyone who is doing something more creative. Have you implemented a good Management Review while breaking out of the meeting box?

I've read and heard that there are consulting societies that organize mgmt reviewe for companies in locations far from their own offices. Usually in castles or aboard on ship or ad hoc places. Doing so, it seems to be morre effective. They usually last two-three day and held in week end.
The atmosphere is not so boring and ad hoc events make the mgmt review more productive.
It is a new way of team building .

There is no requirement for any type of meeting to be compliant to TS. The system must be reviewed. A review could be done by individuals reviewing information without meeting in a room, over a conference call, or video conference. However, this approach may or may not be optimal but is compliant.

I assume your comments about adequacy and requirement are related to optimization and not compliance to a standard.

MRM without a meeting of concerned persons is OK if it is through video conferencing of persons located in differant geographical locations.Tele conferencing is not adequate.These days even MRMs have becoming just formalities due to lack of interest by the CEOs/Heads.It is required that a stricter scrutiny of MRMs and CEO audits are required to preserve the value of certifications.

In a smaller organization, surely the Management Representative could prepare a review, present/discuss it with the leadership (owner, perhaps) and that would be perfectly adequate? Why can't a teleconference be adequate? Surely, it's the content of the review, not the mechanism which counts?

Not only that, but there doesn't have to be a particular instance of management review--it can be a continual process of supplying information to management and management's actions as a result. So long as records are kept of what transpires, management review doesn't have to be an "event."

Why would tele conferencing not be adequate? As long as they are participating and have visual link access to the material being discussed. We have managers that dial into our quarterly review. Our QMS is across a numberof sites not geographically close and do not have vdeo conf facilities.

We have never had a problem with this from any of external auditors. When I am auditing MR to TS audio link up does not raise an issue to me as long as the requiremens of 5.6.2/5.6.2.1/5.3 are met.

Of course you can hold management review by teleconferencing. It can be a part of it, or even the all of it.

That's what I thought Jim and I never have or never would raise it as a deviation.
