7.4.1.2 Supplier QMS Registration
I work for a semiconductor facility that is ISO/TS 16949 registered. A few of our assembly/test subcontractors have not obtained ISO 9001:2000 as of Dec. 15, 2003 (and plans for ISO/TS 16949 compliance/registration are targeted for mid 2004). These subs are still QS9000 (based on ISO 9001:1994). ISO/TS 16949, 7.4.1.2 states 'unless otherwise specified by the customer, suppliers to the organization shall be third party registered to ISO 9001:2000 by an accredited third-party certification body'. Our interpretation is that our subcontractors must have ISO 9001:2000 as a minimum in order for us to continue to use them, however, these subs claim that we can still use them since they are QS9000 registered. In one case, the sub claims that they have been informed that the ISO 9001:2000 requirement has been extended 3 years. I have found no interpretation from the IASG or IOAB that allows this. In short, are we correct on our interpretation that our subs require ISO9001:2000 registration as a minimum (or we need to obtain a waiver from our auto customers to allow us to continue to use the sub)?
