Just wondering if anyone has any current thoughts or information on control of electronic documentation.
ISO9k2k and its stepchild, TS16949, essentially say
"documents are documents, records are records, regardless of the media - paper, etched in steel, or electronic bits floating on hard drives or floppies."
The organization is responsible for identifying those documents and records it needs to manage and control and to put processes in place to create, approve, publish, store, retrieve, and dispose of them. Storage and retrieval may or may not have extra sub processes of security, which may include an audit trail of who accesses or modifies a document.
Thus said - every day brings a new program or improvement on an old one to make the process of dealing with electronic documents more efficient and secure. Always start your search fresh and don't count on old (more than 3 months) recommendations because of the rapidity with which new programs are created.
