I tried to find something on this topic in past threads but did not see it. I attended a regular audit at our Mexico plant (9001) in order to learn things that would help me with our TS audit as a remote site. The auditor was very helpful and said that with TS we would have a readiness review so we might want to consider NOT having a preassesment audit? Any thoughts from anyone out there, I would be interested to know who has had both? I realize it would save money but the preassesment would allow us more that 90 days to correct problems.

I have had both for TS. The readiness review is not an option, but a requirement.
The pre-assessment was a big help in identifying real things that needed corrected prior to the conformance audit. I suggest it is well worth the extra money to make the improvements. You want to identify and avoid all potential findings whether minor or major.

: TS 16949 - Readiness Review or Preassesment audit?

Readiness is compulsory according to the CB but preassessment is optional. We had both of them and clarified a lot of things during the pre-certification assessment. We knew what the auditors focus on and paid more attention on those items highlighted. We also spent nearly 2 months to clean up and passed the certification with flying colours.

Pre audit - readiness review

Pre-audit is kind of "allowed consultancy" by the CB.
It can only take place once for a given site.

Readiness review ( or stage 1 of the certification audit ) is a mandatory activity.
In attachment you may find a list of what is normally checked in a stage 1 audit.

We have had both also, I strongly recommend you to take the pre-audit even is not mandatory, it will help you to clarify a lot of things, as an example, after the pre-audit we notice that our Internal Audit was not followed with a real process approach and the Customer Specif requirements was not considered.

Finally we just passed the stage 1 and still waiting for the good one in 60 days.

Another thing you should take in consideration is the information of all the experts here in this site is very valuable.

Good luck!!!

:applause: Thank you one and all. Kinda looks like we will go with preassesment, I am shooting for Feb 2006!

Not that it should matter, but you need to know that the preassessment and actual Stage 2 audit cannot be conducted by the same Auditor. THe preassessment in my opinion, is a valuable exercise. One reccomendation to save some costs, is since you cannot have the same aduitor, many auditors also consult. If you hire an actual TS auditor to do the preasessment directly you would not have to pay the Registrar fees and get the same results...actually even better because then the auditor can really consult all they want and not be afraid to give you advice. Ask your auditor ( if you feel comfortable) for someone they would reccomend.
